From Fine Art to the Perfect Gift
Susan Styles - Abstract Leather Tapistry
"I am a retired nurse who spent decades moving through long shifts, busy hallways with quiet, human moments in between. Now, I’ve traded that life for one where my hands are usually covered in clay or working the warm, forgiving surface of leather. Abstract art has become my new self taught language—one without rules or expectations—where I can follow instinct instead of schedules.
I’ve always had a quirky, curious brain, constantly connecting dots in unexpected ways, and art finally gives it room to roam. My years of travel have left their imprint on me, from bold colors and textures to subtle memories of places, people, and conversations. Those experiences surface in my work as layered forms and organic shapes that feel more discovered than designed.
Creating is both grounding and freeing for me. Each piece is a reflection of where I’ve been, what I’ve seen, and who I am becoming - less about perfection, more about exploration, story, and the simple joy of making something honest with my hands."
