Yuliya North - Oil

About ten years ago, I moved to Washington State from another country, and I still remember my first glimpse of the Pacific Northwest from the car ride away from the airport. The mountains stretching across the horizon, endless evergreens, and Mount Rainier rising through the clouds felt almost unreal. Since then, the beauty of this region has become my endless source of inspiration.

I am mostly a self-taught artist, working primarily in oil and watercolor. I was fortunate to have an inspiring art teacher in school who encouraged me to take art seriously, and her belief in me stayed with me over the years. Since then, I have continued learning through practice, experimentation, and curiosity. My paintings are often inspired by the mountains, forests, rivers, and alpine lakes I encounter while exploring the Pacific Northwest.

When I’m not painting, I love spending time outdoors - hiking, fishing, and camping - and many of those experiences eventually find their way into my artwork. I especially enjoy bringing my watercolors along on hikes and painting en plein air, slowing down to observe a place and simply be present in the moment. I also enjoy knitting, another creative hobby that gives me a chance to work with my hands and make something from scratch.

I’m excited to be part of this gallery and look forward to connecting with other artists, meeting fellow art lovers, and sharing my paintings with the local community. I feel very fortunate to have found a place where I can share something I love so much.
